RFQs received for an Alternate Part Number (PN) are now automatically routed to the interchangeable Main PN that has stock, instead of stalling on a PN with no inventory.
How auto-routing works
If an RFQ comes in for an Alternate PN with no stock, but a fully interchangeable Main PN does have stock, the system routes the RFQ to that Main PN and creates the outgoing quote under it.
If the Alternate PN in the RFQ doesn't already exist in your system, it is not created as a new Part Number — the RFQ is simply routed to the existing Main PN with stock.
If more than one Main PN linked to the Alternate has sellable quantity, the system automatically selects the one with the highest sellable quantity, and shows you the other options.
Routing works in both directions — Alternate to Main, and Main to Alternate.
Yellow alert on the Create Quote form
When you open the Create a New Outgoing Quote form for an RFQ that was auto-routed, a yellow alert appears at the top letting you know:
The original RFQ was received for a different Alternate PN than the one being quoted.
If multiple Main PNs had stock, each is listed with its quantity, and the auto-selected one is indicated.
Any other available Part Numbers are hyperlinked so you can jump straight to that PN's page if you'd rather quote from there.
You can still manually change the Part Number on the quote at any time — the alert is there to keep a clear record of what the customer originally requested.
Example
An RFQ comes in for Alternate PN BP-353F-1, which has no stock (and may not even exist in the system yet). Two interchangeable Main PNs have stock: ELM2011-2 (Qty 3) and ELM2011-1 (Qty 1). The system routes the quote to ELM2011-2 as the highest-quantity option, and the Create Quote form shows a yellow alert noting the original Alternate PN request along with a hyperlink to ELM2011-1 as the other available option.
